FAQ

Why 209 hours per month?

Korean Labor Standards Act: 40 work hours + 8 hours paid weekly rest = 48 paid hours/week. A month has ~4.345 weeks (365/7 ÷ 12). 48 × 4.345 ≈ 209 hours — the standard used for minimum-wage calculations and monthly salary computation.

What is Korean paid weekly rest (주휴수당)?

Article 55: if a worker works ≥15 hours/week and shows up every scheduled day, they earn 1 paid day (typically 8 hours). So even hourly part-timers earn an extra 8× hourly rate if they work ≥15 hours/week. This tool includes it by default.

What if my schedule isn't 40 hours/week?

Use "Adjust work conditions" to change the hours/week. Examples: 40 hr (full-time), 15–20 hr (short part-time), 35 hr (research). You can also toggle weekly-rest inclusion.

Hourly → Monthly example?

Korea 2026 minimum wage 10,030 KRW → monthly (209 hr including rest) = 10,030 × 209 = 2,096,270 KRW. Excluding rest (40 hr × 4.345 = 174 hr) → 10,030 × 174 ≈ 1,745,220 KRW. If your contract says "weekly rest paid separately," the hourly rate excludes rest.

Annual → Hourly?

Annual ÷ 12 = monthly, monthly ÷ 209 = hourly (with weekly rest). e.g., 40M KRW/yr → ~3.33M/mo → ~15,948 KRW/hr. If your contract pays severance or bonuses separately, the actual monthly may differ.

Why does take-home differ?

This tool gives pre-tax conversions. Take-home is reduced by ~10–15% for Korean social insurances (national pension, health, employment, workers' comp) and income/local tax. Use the Salary Take-Home Calculator for that.
