FAQ

How are lunar holidays computed?

The tool embeds the Hong Kong Observatory lunar table (1900–2099) and computes lunar→solar dates locally. Lunar New Year (lunar 1/1), Buddha's Birthday (lunar 4/8), and Chuseok (lunar 8/15) shift every year accordingly.

What are the substitute-holiday rules?

Per the 2021 Korean substitute-holiday law: ① Seollal, Chuseok, and Children's Day get a substitute when they fall on Saturday or Sunday. ② March 1st, Liberation Day, National Foundation, Hangeul Day, Buddha's Birthday, and Christmas get a substitute when they fall on Sunday.

Why isn't Labor Day (May 1) listed?

Labor Day applies only to workers under the Labor Standards Act — it's not a 공휴일 (national holiday). Banks and public servants typically work; private companies follow their own policy.

Could the dates differ from official announcements?

Lunar conversion matches KASI's (Korean Astronomy and Space Science Institute) calendar closely. Ad-hoc holidays (elections, state events) are designated by the government on a case-by-case basis and aren't auto-included here.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. All lunar conversion and holiday computation runs in your browser using embedded data.
