FAQ
Korean car-tax formula?
Passenger car: displacement (cc) × per-cc rate. Rates: ①≤1,000 cc: 80 KRW, ②1,000–1,600 cc: 140 KRW, ③>1,600 cc: 200 KRW. e.g., 2,000 cc → 2,000 × 200 = 400,000 KRW/year, plus 30% local-education tax (120,000) = 520,000 KRW total annual.
How does the age discount work?
After 3 years from registration, passenger cars get a 5% annual discount: year 4 = 5%, year 5 = 10%, year 6 = 15% ... capping at 50% from year 12. Local-education tax is recalculated against the discounted base. Commercial vehicles and EVs are excluded.
What is the 5% lump-sum discount?
Paying the full year in January earns a 5% discount (rate varies year to year). Quarterly installments (June, December) get no discount. Can be set up via auto-debit or Hometax. This tool shows both amounts.
Installment schedule?
Without lump-sum: paid twice a year — ①June 16–30: H1 amount (half), ②December 16–31: H2 amount (half). Local-education tax follows the same split.
Why are EVs/FCEVs flat-rate?
To promote green vehicles, non-commercial EVs/FCEVs are taxed a flat 130,000 KRW regardless of motor power (plus separate local-education tax 39,000 KRW, total 169,000 KRW/year). The flat rate is not reduced by vehicle age.
Trucks and vans?
Trucks use load capacity, vans use seat count, with different rate tables (lower than passenger; commercial-use even lower). This tool focuses on the most-searched passenger + EV cases; trucks, vans, and commercial vehicles aren't supported.
