What is a kaomoji?
A kaomoji (顔文字) is a Japanese-style emoticon made from characters rather than a picture. Unlike 🙂, it combines brackets, hiragana, katakana, and symbols into a face. Because it is plain text, it works in usernames, documents, and code comments where emoji are not allowed.
Some of them show up as boxes (□).
That means the viewing device has no font covering those characters, which is common on older Android and Windows. When you do not know what the recipient uses, stick to simple ones like (^_^) or (・ω・) that only use basic characters.
Do they work on Instagram, Discord, and X?
Yes. They are plain text, so anywhere you can paste, they go. Some services restrict special characters in username or handle fields, so those specific inputs may reject them.
Clicking does not copy anything.
